Dear humans,
It’s morning.
We definitely don’t approve.
The female has a great deal of work to do today, and she’s behind on basically everything. She needs to make a week magically appear so she can focus on a client’s book, too. She thinks she’ll get a full week she can dedicate after she’s done Grave Humor.
Grave Humor, at least, is moving along nicely.
We won’t lie, humans. The female has totally bitten off more than she can chew, but she’s up for the challenge despite the challenge possibly driving her crazier than she already is.
She’s not supposed to be having coffee, but guess who is having coffee? Sigh. Guess who also needs to order more antacids from the place of the webbing inters?
If that made sense to you, you’re way ahead of us this morning.
This is what the current situation should be. This is not the current situation. Boo!
To begin our shenanigans for today, here is a cover from the Otterly Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) series. It’s now seven books instead of six because there was one title she just couldn’t walk away from.
It’s Otterly Irresistible.

Yeah. Okay. Now that we’ve gotten that train wreck out of the way, onto today’s book review.
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold is one of the female’s all-time favorites. It’s got a little bit of everything set in a high fantasy world with magic, gods, more magic, and very real characters with very real problem. There are characters I adore in this book.
There are characters who deserved a far worse fate than they got.
It’s a more expensive book at about $10, but the female loves it enough she’s bought it like five times, four in paperback, one in e-book. She has a signed copy. She got it for her birthday one year. It is her prized precious baby. NO TOUCH.
There are three books set in the Chalion world, and they’re all really good, but the Curse of Chalion forever holds a place as the female’s favorite.
It just has a charm to it.
So, if you read it, we really hope you enjoy it!
Assuming she can figure out what project to sacrifice or delay in 2021, What an Otter Mess will release sometime then. Yes, it IS part of the Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) world. It’s just a more traditional series in said world, unlike Bailey and Quinn’s trilogy, which is more of the following for the female: ‘Okay, fine… I CAN do some more stuff, and I left myself openings, and you all just love them, so I’ll indulge you.’
She does quite enjoy indulging you, but Playing with Fire had never truly intentionally been designed to continue Quinn and Bailey’s story; she had planned on using a new couple to wrap up the original opening plot lines.
It took a lot of braining on her part to rerig that story to be Bailey/Quinn. (You can show your appreciation by ruthlessly hunting more people to read Playing with Fire. What? I’m a cat, and my job as a part of the Furred & Frond Management is to make you buy more books!)
The female now has coffee, and she is now going to make her schedule for today and hope she gets further into it than her list yesterday.
She does not know how to set realistic goals for herself.

As much as I love reading, well, anything from you, don’t push yourself too hard. We (your readers) don’t want to lose you because you over-did everything.
I also love Curse of Chalion but
favorite is Paladin of Souls! She now has a bunch on novellas set in the same world!
‘Curse of Chalion’ and ‘Paladin of Souls’ are on my favorites list too. I’ve actually almost worn out the bindings of them. Her novella series in the same world starting with Penric’s Demon are also absolutely delightful. Please prompt the Female to get them. The audio editions are also good and are on my insomnia rota along with the females audio books.
May I also recommend Honor Raconteur’s Case Files of Henri Davenforth for comfort reading. Starts with ‘Magic and the Shinigami Detective.
Love Bujold! I also want you to work your fingers to the bone! TO THE BONE! Writing new stuff! BUT NO! I want all your new books, but I don’t want you to work yourself sick. Adore the feline management and breathe.
When I read them at launch Curse of Chalion was my favorite. These many years later, having become rather older, Paladin of Souls is now my favorite. I agree with Pence that Penric’s Demon series is a delight, as is Honor Raconteur’s books.
