Dear humans,
Please enjoy this picture of a mountain road cutting through the Sierras. It is pretty. The female enjoyed the drive.
Send cookies, and spike them with vodka. The female is having a day. She needs to get writing done and editing completed, but she wants to go back to bed and have a do-over.
Honestly, you could just send the vodka. It would only take a shot to knock her off her ass. She doesn’t handle liquor well at all.
Huh. Actually, skip the vodka. Those in a drunken stupor are difficult to move, and that’s what happens when she sniffs alcohol.
(In case you haven’t guessed, she doesn’t usually drink.)
Today’s book review is for the Crystal Singer series by Anne McCaffrey. Truth be told, the female likes most books by Anne McCaffrey, although you do have to squint and tilt your head to the side while remembering many of them were written in a far different time from now. You can see the changes in society just from how men and women are treated in the various books.
But assuming you can ignore what was okay then versus okay now, they’re great reads. Some of the books make the female twitch because of those elements, but a stern reminder that ‘times have changed’ go well here.
And no, that doesn’t mean go back and change 20+ year old books because society shifted. Societies do that.
These books are very good at reminding us society has changed. Please don’t erase our past.
Should we, we forget why we should continue to change our futures.
Let them serve as reminders of what used to be.
So, be aware of that, remind yourself that’s the case, and enjoy the books for what they are. Times change.
The stories are still good.
The female very much enjoys this series, and it’s one of her favorite science-fiction books to date.
As always, check the samples before you buy. What the female likes may not be what you like.
Happy reading!

I concur – the Crystal Singer books are great!

I read most of McCaffrey’s books and like them a lot. While things have changed, McCaffrey was great about creating strong female characters in lead roles, not something that was not so common in sci fi/fantasy in those days.

Anne McCaffrey’s books were my introduction to fantasy/scifi when I was in middle school! She is still one of my favorites.

I love the crystal singer series, and the dragon books were so important to me for years (the early non co authored ones). My afghan hound was called Canth ?

What kind of cookies does your human want? Baking is a good thing when trapped inside! I bet you kitties want catnip cookies right?
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
Catnip cookies are life.
The female just went into her corner with her “tagalong” cookies made by the scouts of girls? She won’t let me sniff the box! How rude.
Nancy Gilbertson
Maybe the female will let you sniff the box when her tagalongs a all gone ? What is your favorite kind of catnip for cookies?

Silvervine!

I absolutely love Anne McCaffery. I have read all her Pern books and I have read the Crystal Singer twice already and am getting the need to sing again.

Try the Powers that Be books, too! They’re marvelous.
