Dear humans,
The smoke is more gray than orange today. We assume this is good. We do not assume the air outside is precisely breathable, so we are avoiding the evil outdoors.
The male purchased the female the best tacos she has ever eaten in her life yesterday. This is what they looked like:
If you live in the Cupertino area, the taco truck is located on the corner of Stern and Stevens Creek Boulevard in the parking lot of the gas station next door to the 7-11, across the street from the hotel. It’s been there for a while, and the gas station is sharing their electricity with the truck.
The male ordered the carne asada (beef street taco, basically.) It was served with cheese, sour cream, onions, cilantro, lime, onions on the side, and a grilled jalapeño. Best. Taco. Ever.
The female is hoping the male needs to return to 7-11, and as the smoke is bad, he would have to take Dipshit, which might mean she might get another plate of street tacos!
That would be marvelous. The female weeps for joy at the thought.
The female loves the immigrants in her community very much. They bring such interesting culture (and wonderful0 food!!) with them. And most of them have been super nice and hard-working people. She respects the fuck out of that.
(Just don’t get her started on the idiots who forget that no firecrackers really means no firecrackers during their religious ceremonies in the summer and early fall. Like… put the firecrackers away, we live in California.)
She’s also been an immigrant. The male is an immigrant.
As such, the Furred & Frond Management is biased towards immigrants.
So, onto the book faire! As a reminder, this is to thank nice humans who helped the female spread word about her various books! Unless we say otherwise, she has not read these books. Please do your usual checks when you’re shopping for a book, as we want you to find new reads you will enjoy. If you do read one, feel free to swing by the comments and tell us if you enjoyed it!
And Ruin Followed Behind Her by Russell Nohelty
Genre: We forgot to ask. We think it’s a dark urban/contemporary fantasy with a hellish twist. We think. We could have asked, but the female is sipping tea and it’s too early in the morning to brain. We know nothing, there is only tea.
Pixies are real. They are being hunted. Julia Freeman must protect them. And Ruin Followed Behind Her combines three books into one.
In Mystery Spot, Julia Freeman finds out that she is a pixie and must stop a dangerous cult from using her blood to open a portal to Hell.
In Into Hell, Julia travels into Hell to rescue a young pixie who was kidnapped by an evil banshee as a gift for the dark lord, Lucifer.
In Last Stand, Julia tracks a secret society that wants to use pixie blood to summon a demon to do their bidding, and only Julia and her new apprentice can stop them. However, when their investigation goes south, Julia must survive her most difficult challenge yet; the pits of Hell.
Warnings: It’s labeled as a dark fantasy, so we’re assuming there will be standard dark fantasy material within these pages. So, if you’re looking for a fluffy read, this probably isn’t for you.
This book is available at the following vendors: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and Apple. $5.99.
Our thoughts: We like the contrast on this cover. It has just enough detail to be interesting, and the details present lend well to the dark themes described in the description. The female is not up for any dark reads right now, but for those who enjoy darker stuff, this might be up your alley.
As a side note, there is not enough tea for today. Or coffee.
The female is not having coffee today.
In other news, the female got a Brita water filter, and she very much likes it, because now the water no longer tastes nasty. Now she just has to train the male to give us water from the Brita.
The male is trainable, he’s just a wee bit stubborn.
Soul of the Crow by Jessaca Willis
Genre: Epic Dark Fantasy
A deadly female assassin. A prince destined for the throne. And the kill order that pits them against each other.
When a mortal wants someone dead, they contract a Reaper of Veltuur, an assassin born from the underrealm, with fatal magic coursing through their veins.
Sinisa is one of them.
For three years, she’s served the underrealm and slain her targets dutifully with the aid of her crow familiar. She only needs one more kill to ascend as a Shade, a coveted status of power. And when the King of Oakfall requests a Reaper to execute his daughter for an unforgivable crime, Sinisa is first to volunteer for the job.
It should be easy.
But when the Prince of Oakfall discovers his sister is in danger, he flees the palace with her, leaving Sinisa with only two options: journey through the mortal realm to find and slay her mark, or face the consequences of returning to the underrealm empty-handed.
It’s no choice at all. She has come too far and is too close to earning her title to let it be taken away from her now.
Besides, no one can outrun a Reaper of Veltuur.
Or can they…
Warnings: Contains rape and other dark subject matters. This is a dark fantasy.
This book is available in the Kindle Unlimited library, and as such, it is only available at Amazon. $2.99.
Our thoughts: We really like this cover. It’s dark, it’s moody, and it otherwise really hits on what the female looks for in a dark fantasy… the rare times that the female wants a dark fantasy, which is not often at all.
Secret Legacy by Carissa Andrews
Genre: Paranormal
Nestled in the woods of Windhaven, Blackwood Manor waits to unleash a dark and deadly legacy…
When Autumn Blackwood shows up at Windhaven Academy for the Witching Stick Orientation, she hopes to find out what dormant powers she could possibly possess to have been accepted to the elite supernatural school. Instead, the academy is in chaos as everyone frantically hunts for two missing girls.
But as school begins with Autumn no closer to figuring out her powers, strange occurrences start to follow her everywhere. Even at home, Blackwood Manor keeps many secrets, and Autumn can’t escape its haunting past.
New friends urge her to learn more about her family’s history in order to unlock her powers and make sense of what’s happening at Blackwood Manor, but Autumn’s not so sure. Once an accident brings Autumn face-to-face with death, however, she realizes her gifts are tied to a legacy that can either save or doom them all…
Warnings: None.
This book is available for preorder at Amazon and releases on September 15, 2020. (The paperback is available now, however.) $0.99.
Our thoughts: So many dark books with dark covers! The poor female struggles so much to see the details on the dark covers. There are details lurking in the background of this one… but the female just can’t really make out what the textures are supposed to be.
The font work is nice. We wish we could see more of the details, though.
We don’t know anything about this book, so we are going to sit here and go “We just don’t know” but hey, they font work is really pretty, and we’re just going to take a few minutes to enjoy it.
Happy reading, and have a great day, humans!
The female is now going to try to use tea-therapy to improve her mood. She is very short-tempered and tired today for many reasons.
But the permanent plates for Dipshit arrived, and the USPS person brought them right to our door. She is very grateful for that.
But seriously, if you’re in the Cupertino area, check out that gas station parking lot to see if that taco truck is still there.
Fucking. Incredible.
