To start this show, I have written a short novel entitled Life-Debt, which is in the upcoming Pets in Space 7 anthology. This anthology is a charity drive for Hero Dogs.
This is my first published foray into science fiction/space opera, so I hope you enjoy the ride.
Viva’s story will be a foundation story for an entire world of hybrid space foxes and those wise enough to charm them! (And yes, while there is a man chest, my story does not have sex on the page as usual.)
Pets in Space® is back for a new year of adventures!
Pets in Space is back and better than ever! Featuring 13 original, never-before-released stories from some of today’s bestselling science fiction romance authors, starring your favorite sci-fi pets. These furry, feathered, and slightly alien friends are always ready for a new adventure with their two-legged human and alien companions. From dogs to cats to sea creatures and unicorns, these romantic tales show that pets are more than just animals – they’re family.
This limited-edition anthology includes novellas by some of the biggest names in science fiction romance. New York Times Bestseller S.E. Smith and USA Today Bestsellers R.J. Blain, Grace Goodwin, Skye MacKinnon, Carol Van Natta, Honey Phillips, Carysa Locke, S.J. Pajonas, JC Hay, and Kyndra Hatch, plus Leslie Chase, Winnie Winkle, and Candace Colt.
The Pets in Space 7 authors continue their vital support of Hero-Dogs.org, the non-profit charity that improves quality of life for veterans of the U.S. military and first-responders with disabilities.
Don’t miss out — grab this limited-edition anthology before it’s too late!

Now… only the upcoming Chip on Her Shoulder discount! A Chip on Her Shoulder will be available at $0.99 on August 10, 2022. It will be featured on Bookbub. Hooray!
After the deal ends, the price will increase to $6.99. Why the price hike?
It is currently with a proofing editor to do another sweep for stray typos, and I am also spending time/effort to polish the manuscript. As such, following the deal, it will be set to my new pricing. (All new full-length novels coming out from this point forward will also be priced at $6.99, but I’m only marking up old works as I do full editing passes on them to clean them up and bring them up to my current standards.)
I will do my best to remind you, but if you want to make certain you don’t miss any deals I do, please follow me on Bookbub!
Following me on all my pen names is a great way to make sure you don’t miss anything.
You can also follow:
Bernadette Franklin: think mag rom coms but without the magic, so if you want sweet, funny, and a little edgy without sex on the page, you’ll probably like them despite their status as contemporary romances.
Susan Copperfield: Royalty themed paranormal romances, often edgy / facing real life social issues with a rather me flare… tbh, it seems like a lot of people like Susan more than they like me, and this doesn’t make me actually sad at all.
Audrey Greene: This version of me is science fictiony paranormal romance that takes place on an Earth-like preservation planet, where the women are feisty and make their own paths, the men are sweet and only overbearing when the women want them to be, and it’s just pure cotton candy book goodness.
I adore Bookbub, so if you want access to all the deals and notices of my new releases, this is totally the place to be. (Show that sweet Audrey Greene some love!)
No fucking lie, I ADORE working on Moon Tamed, and I can’t wait to share this world with you.
Side-note: Why is Audrey Greene separated out while I am releasing Sci-fi/space opera upcoming on R.J. Blain?
Simple: I already have like 10 covers in hand for Audrey Greene, it is an alternate version of our universe, and the tone is very much sweeter; while some exciting things happen and there is some darkness and issues, I am writing these for more feel good… well, my version of feel good.
With the R.J. Blain brand… I feel there needs to be punchier things. There’s also less magic, and the magic that IS used is practical. And magic isn’t everywhere in the universe in Audrey’s books… so Earth has limited access; other places can portal to and from Earth, but Earth itself is otherwise non-magical, just like ours. Where Coraline’s world has practical magic that people only use when it’s really needed or they just can’t get around using it.
I really, really like Audrey Greene. I really like her. She’s one of my happy places. She is a happy place I am openly sharing, but please let’s keep that the happy place! <3
And for the next clue for my still secret pen name:
If you take the murder mystery elements in the Witch & Wolf world that I never really got to pursue to the extent my heart wanted… mostly due to a lack of skill and practice, and you married that with the magical romantic comedy world, and splash in cops, you get the new series.
I am somewhere between a quarter and a third the way through the book, and I am expecting each of these titles to fall in the 150,000 to 200,000 word mark, so here is a second bonus clue: the release price will be $7.99.
Patron members will still receive the books in this specific series at the $5.99 rate OR their regular monthly subscription rate, so if you are on my patron, please do not panic. I have you covered. Retail will just be more expensive because the books are longer.
150,000 words is the threshold for books to be priced up from $6.99 to $7.99, by the way.
Happy day!
Enjoy your week, folks. Tomorrow is my 20th anniversary, so I will not be present much online. (Okay, so husband is working, shame shame shame, but I will be probably playing sims4 while being excited. It’s also his birthday!)
Nanci Smith
Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!

Will the Audrey Greene books be included in the Patron? I just want to know so I can pre-order it if I need to. Thank you!
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
All books I write that aren’t anthologies of any sort or include other people (in case I ever DO co-write) are included with the patreons.
Val Cassidy
Thanks, I don’t want to miss any of your books.

I’m looking forward to Pets in Space; they’re always fun. On another note, has anyone noticed a real life news article about hundreds of medical test beagle dogs being rescued? Life imitating art? See Blending Inn by our fav author.
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
Blending In was based on current practices in illegal dog medical testing. It was art imitating life, and I did a lot of disturbing research on the illegal dog testing trade to write the book. All you’re seeing is one of the illegal testing groups being busted.

Happy Anniversary! Thanks for the heads-up on Pets In Space; I’ve pre-ordered.

Hi,
Just curious as to what had happened to Pets In Space 7. It’s no longer available on Amazon, Apple Books, B&N or Rokuten. Any idea on when the anthology will be available again?
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
Never. The sets are once a year for the Hero Dogs charity. My contribution to the set is up for preorder entitled Life-Debt. Most of the other authors are also self-selling their contributions at this point, but they Pets in Space charity anthologies are only done for roughly 4-6 months each year for Hero Dogs.
