So, my brain CONSTANTLY messes up Thunder Ridge / Lightning Ridge. Hint: Lightning Ridge is correct. But because we say THUNDER and LIGHTNING, in that order, my brain swaps them.
In Plaidypus… I made this error.
Nobody caught it. Especially not me (because while I know better, I DO NOT correct it, it doesn’t appear wrong, my brain just HELPFULLY does this thing.)
There were 20+ people working on the book and we all failed to identify I’d fucked it up.
I thought about fixing it in the book. I am STILL thinking about it. (It’s a pain in the ass and costs money to fix esp the print editions… I’ll do it next week or so.) But I also have this urge to put a funny from the author note in the back explaining how this shit comes to be.
My brain just DEMANDS it be Thunder.
My brain is stupid and wrong.
P.S.: Oops. I’ll get around to fixing it, I swears.
Please be kind to your local authors. We’re not okay.
Writerly Sloth
Oh I love it ♥︎ I would crack up if I read a book, then found a note like that at the end. DO IT! LOL.
It’s endearing, fits Plaidypus like a glove and would definitely endear you to new-to-you readers.
Jesse
I didn’t notice it and it is your world if your brain wants Thunder give it Thunder.
Melissa
Don’t worry about it! I’ve read the book four or five times and never noticed it. I’m happy with either Ridge. 🙂
Val C.
Please don’t fix the “fun brain” mistakes. I’d rather read about in an authors note.
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
I will fix because people are often assholes and will report the error as the error it is. But i will add a digital author note because amusing.
Amy
? I don’t remember seeing that because MY brain autocorrects for me! Oh well, I still enjoyed it and put it in my read again list!
Bill G
Once I make a mistake, it’s very rare that I can correct it. No matter how often I try to check myself, I just accept what I’ve written before.

Who cares? I do this all the time. (Well I know you care because you are perfectionist like me) But when reading it adds the character of the author to the story and makes it more human and unique. If a story is chock full of errors that make it hard to read that’s one thing. But a book is a creative piece of art that should not be picked apart and tampered with just because there is a fleck here or there after the author and team have worked hard to make it perfect.
Val
I mean, it’s a different world, cause magic. So maybe in the magic world it’s Thunder Ridge opal instead of Lighting Ridge.
I didn’t notice through my few readings, I just had to go look it up in the book to see where it was used.
Lisa
I didn’t notice, but would have assume artistic license if I had! It’s all Good!

Babe, your brain is what we love… do it your way… fix it… don’t fix it… we all know what you meant. Hope you are feeling better.

Karen
It’s fiction – just leave it.
Nancy Williams
I didn’t notice it don’t see any reason to have to fix it.

Thunder Ridge just sounds right. Unless the name changed in the middle of the book, just leave it. It’s fiction after all.
I never noticed and thoroughly enjoyed the book.
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
Yeah, it “sounds” correct. It is not correct! XD
Mary
I just reread Plaidypus last night. And didn’t notice this.
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
I think I’ve read the book at least thirty times and only noticed it last night… because I’d just spent a few hours on ebay looking up LIGHTNING RIDGE OPALS. :screams:
In other news… I bought myself some really pretty lightning ridge opals…
Stephanie
I just reread it for like the hundred times and did not catch it so now I will have to reread just so I can find it! LOL LOVE YOUR BOOKS!! I am on Fowl Play right now and loving it as always! Keep on writing love your book errors and all!
Valerie
Not familiar enough with opals, or any gemstone, sources to notice. It’s your book, correct or explain, to make it work FOR YOU!
Lisa g
Yes, funny authors note. Please and thank you.

I get it?. I’m in my 70’s. About 10 years or so ago my brain decided it was directionally dyslexic! If I wanted to say ‘right’, it said ‘left’, If I wanted to turn North on a street while driving, my brain made the decision to go South! It’s made my life rather interesting. Just don’t ask me for directions for anything??♀️
Nikita Gordyn
No one caught it 🙂 I’d say leave it, especially as your brain says it should be Thunder. I usually catch stuff like that without a doubt every time, I missed it too.
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
LOL I COULD just, in a later book, write in how both exist because so many people kept inputting “Thunder Ridge” into search engines so they just named a portion of the Lightning Ridge mine Thunder Ridge so they could get all the people who are used to Thunder and Lightning! XD
And then put in a footnote that no, author is just stupid but an absurd number of people really wanted Thunder Ridge to stay so the author caved to peer pressure…
