Greetings, folks! In case you missed it, the new read along for a Bernadette Franklin novel (Murder Floof) begins today on the monthly Patreon. Cindercorns and Spicy Ponies with Bite are the ones who will be receiving the story scene by scene.
As a reminder, the scenes will only be on the site for one week. Patreon will email you the scene so you have a copy in your person records.
Otters will receive the book when it is ready for publication, as normal, several days before its official publication date at retailers.
To check your subscription, on Patreon, (while logged in), click on the gear (Settings) as pictured below. (Please note I use the desktop version of the site and cannot help you with mobile.)
Once you have clicked settings, select Memberships.
On my personal Patreon, I gleefully pay Drachinifel for being awesome and doing naval history stuff because my husband LOVES naval history.
Click the Switch to Another tier button and select the tier you want.
If you do not see a variety of tiers, including Pixie Patrons, Cindercorns, Otters, Spicy Ponies with Bite, etc… you are not looking at the correct R.J. Blain patreon. (Icon is a blue cheetah OR a cindercorn cover image.)
If it is just cindercorn, that is the per novel Patreon. If it has things for short stories, that’s the short story tier.
Yes, I know some of you are of the stance it isn’t fair that the $25+ tiers are getting the unpublished works read alongs. (It’s absolutely fair, because they’re getting to see a LOT of behind the scenes stuff, which is all extra, as are sneak peeks.) Otters will eventually get all of the books that the Cindercorns and Spicy Ponies with Bite receive, in polished format.
If you’re looking to save money… Patreon isn’t the place. Patreon is more about the above and beyond, the superfans who want to see all the extras. If you want to come and go… I recommend sticking with retail and making use of sites like Bookbub to bargain hunt to your heart’s content.
So, if you want to start reading along as books are written, the Monthly Patreon is where you want to be.
And for those of you who have missed it, here is how the earnings work for the Monthly Patreon.
1: Tax man comes and gets his money.
2: From what is left after tax man gets his money, 60% goes to household/living expenses (very important, makes sure I can keep writing), and 40% goes to production expenses. (40% is broken into two categories; 20% of the total goes to Royal States, the other 20% goes to general production.)
Audiobooks are NOT funded through this Patreon.
Each scene will be left on the Patreon for one week, after which it will be deleted and a new scene will take its place. For those who are late to the party, there will be a very brief recap of what was missed in prior episodes. (It’s just like old school television, where you have to be present to see what’s going on and figure it out if you missed an episode.)
The Murder Floof post will go live sometime this evening. I am going scene by scene for all Cinder+ read alongs, as I will be writing the books as they’re posting. (And if I’m not done the scene, I’ll send an update to the tiers with where I’m at and what feral thing the book has done preventing me from finishing the scene promptly.)
Quake Zone will be the next Royal States read along after one of the other ones finishes.
Current line up of read alongs:
- Murder Floof (Bernadette Franklin)
- Grave Affairs (Lilith Daniels)
- Trickster King (Susan Copperfield)
- Iron Unicorn (Susan Copperfield)
Please do not share any of the scenes with anyone outside of Patreon. (This should not be said, but as it’s happened before… please don’t. Encourage your friends to buy the finished product when it’s done or check it out from the library.)
Happy reading!
Jenn W

R.J., isn’t there a story where the Quinns are shopping for a bigger house/mansion for their household? Or did I dream/hallucinate it?
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
There is mention of them needing to do it, but there isn’t one of them actually doing it.
Carol Schmoker
Boy, that was sure a detailed dream/hallucination I had then LOL. Thanks, it was driving me crazy rereading (and enjoying) all the MagRomComs to find it.
