Yes, I am two months late starting my reading challenge for this year, but there’s a good reason for that.
Until now, I didn’t really want to do one.
But, this week, I cleared off my GoodReads account, and I began loading in the books I want to read this year. So far, I’m up to twenty.
Please feel free to follow me on goodreads if you want to follow along. I will be moving things to my read shelves as I finish (or choose to DNF), but unless a book is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE, I will not be leaving any stars or reviews.
Absolute favorites will get 5* and a review, and I will share the review on my blog along with buy links in case you want to give the book a try.
I only want to lift other authors up at this stage, and I have no interest in sharing books I just didn’t love with every fiber of my being.
While I can’t counter the GoodReads toxicity problem on my own, I’ll contribute in the only way I can: I will share only the love with others.
My 2024 reading challenge is going to work a little something like this: I am going to try to read 100 books I haven’t written by the end of the year. I am trying to read a broad mix of genres/sub-genres, especially things I don’t normally read.
Will I succeed at reading 100 books? I genuinely have no idea. But at least I’ll have a list of books to read. Wheeee!
Are you doing a reading challenge this year?
Jace Stevens
I am, though i may have underestimated myself.
I jokingly put 100 books as my challenge, and yet i’ve already read 76 since the start of this year
Susan H. Bowin
Yes I am doing a reading challenge again this year.

I’m a retired guy living alone. I spend almost all of my time reading. I don’t make any attempt to keep count but I read a rough average of one book per day.
Deborah Roill
Yes I have over 800 books read. It doesn’t tell me when it started but I read for hours every day. Fine to be retired and book free

I did not set a challenge this year, though maybe I should. In January I just didn’t feel like keeping track of my reading. I’ve read a few of the books on your list and have a few more of them on my want to read list. I think you have a nice variety to enjoy already.

I’m trying to read 150 books this year. I also wanted to let you know that I finished The Trickster King and I loved it! Thank you for your all of your stories!

Your current list has some of my non-R.J. Blain favorite books on it! Rules of Redemption, Silver Shark, & The Blue Sword. I’ve never set a reading challenge. I don’t want the stress of trying to meet a number, or the distress of discovering exactly how many books I do read every year. I know it’s a lot and then I get in my head about reading too much. Better not to know and just enjoy the books!

I don’t do a challenge because it interferes with my joy of reading (and re-reading). At this time of year, I do a LOT of re-reading, because I’m a tax preparer and stress a lot during the season. Re-reading all my favorites is very low-stress because I never run into a bad book. I’m not adventurous during tax season.
Here in Kentucky, gardening season immediately follows tax season, so I’m outside a lot and do less reading – but I’m relaxed so I start venturing out again into new book territory.
I’m so grateful for Bookbub and GoodReads. They have led me to some of my very favorite authors, including yourself and M. C. A. Hogarth.
