This post is going to talk, a little, about Partner in Crime and a few things that readers are inevitably going to go “HAHAHAH caught the author!”
(That game is stupid, by the way. Writing a book is VERY hard. Unless you can write the perfect book, perhaps do not participate in that game. All you do is make authors you claim you like leave the industry. Nobody wins.)
So, this toes, a tiny amount, into spoiler territory. I will not tell you the significance of the clue I am about to suggest you look for, but you will know there is a clue of significance that some might view as an inconsistency when it’s actually not. There is a reason it is done as it is, and the reason is NOT “author error.” (The author, me, did this very intentionally.)
Anyway, there is a “thing” with two numbers in Partner in Crime. Someone (not the main character) authoritatively claims a number.
The character in question is wrong.
The reason the character in question is wrong is later revealed.
A new number is then presented.
The new number… may be correct. (It may not be correct. I am not telling you if it is correct, because that is part of the MYSTERY.)
But there is an event that occurs in the book. If you’re observant, you will understand the relationship between number one, that event, and number two.
So, yes, I am mentioning this BEFORE the release so you can go on a treasure hunt for the number thing. Good luck! Please DO speculate about why the numbers are different! That’s half the fun! I have three reasons the number was presented as $first_number. (There are actually more, but there were three in mind when I wrote it as I did.)
The second thing that I want to showcase is a mention of a “table” in the book. The table is not a typo, so please do not report it. Here is the evidence that this is a real thing that exists. I direly want one. I will not be getting one.
Then, think about the discussion in the book and why this might not be a typo even when your brain is like “hahahaha, typo.”
Partner in Crime releases on Tuesday. (The 22nd for print on Amazon.)
I am the definition of exhausted.
Good luck playing the number game on Tuesday, folks. May you enjoy the book, even with the inevitable and persistent typos that surely insisted on making a showing. (It’s just evidence that real humans worked on the title.)

Oooo I understood the table, I just didn’t know it was a real thing in our reality. I’ve read PiC twice and have not caught the number thing… I may be slow… I will have to go in a third time! (this is SO not a problem) I hope everyone enjoys just as much as I did!

It’s not that anyone is slow for missing it, it’s that it’s a *tiny* detail spread *far apart* in the book, so it’s entirely possible the tiny details are not being retained. (And this is absolutely not abnormal.) It only sticks out *hugely* to me because I wrote it and am the one who made the numbers happen, so I remember those tiny things. (And I have to to eliminate as many inconsistencies as possible.)

I’m such a bad reader, reading for fun and enjoyment. I’m already on my second read, (2.5 if you count patreon read along) and will now have to pay more attention to numbers this time, or the next. The table is pretty neat but probably out of my price range. Thanks for the great reads RJ both Partner and A Light.

So…these books are fiction, right? Why would anyone question the existence of that table? Sigh
The Sneaky Kitty Critic
Because people love playing the “catch the author doing something wrong” game because it gives a power trip I guess.

omfg when I discovered these, I was like I WANT THIS. Like… I also want a couch, but that’s not really happening at this stage, either rofl

I have either not gotten to the table or the numbers in question, or I’ve missed them. Either is possible. What I do see far too much of is reader posts of “OOH, OOH, OOOOHHH!!!!!!!!! I FOUND AN ERROR!!!!!!!!!” On reading those, my mind reverts to my younger days and times when someone would make some similarly (and supposedly deeply wonderful mention) and I, or another nearby, would respond with “Congratulations. Whaddaya want now, a medal, or a chest to pin it on?”
I’m baffled by this mindset.
